But pop music is a business. Boy bands in particular require extra marketing to milk the fangirls of every coin they have. But really, X-Factor puts them through a bootcamp stage etc on national television for entertainment (where they get training on vocal technique etc).

I love the guys but I'm not going to pretend they're such genuine ~artists who rose to fame organically etc.

Being a genuine artist who rose to fame organically doesn't make them better either. It just means they had a lot more hard work to break into the industry.

Oh yeah. How you get there is only part of it. Just look how much work and time goes into making an album, promoting, touring, interviews and performances on award shows.

It's a work ethic that can break all but the sturdiest and cheerful types of people.
