I love Gen1 for making Pokemon, but the game was a little basic back then. They've improved the formula so much. The changes to the type chart, the physical/special split, more creative type combos and designs, etc.

Y'all are forgetting how much impact gen 1 has, and what comes with being the first of something.
Oh and y'all can stop trying to be edgy by liking gen 5 more than 1

Gen 5, even though it is the worst of them, does have some amazing Pokes though.
Excadrill, Galvantula, Jellicent, Ferrothorn, Golurk, Chandelure, Galvantula, Terrakion, Darmanitan, Thundurus-T, Landorus-T, Tornadus-T etc are all great
The problem is that it has so much filler trash that drags it down and makes it the most hated Gen. Not to mention the terrible starters and most of the legendaries, which are garbage.

Yes, the games keep improving. But later on when we're on gen 14, we'll be looking back on how basic gen 5 was too.
Let's just let all gens of the game be great 
However there always has to be a bottom gen and for now, that's gen 5
