I was really excited for RAM before it came out. The marketing campaign was brilliant, and "Get Lucky" was fantastic. But the album was very disappointing. "Get Lucky," "Lose Yourself to Dance," and "Doin' Right" are great. "Giorgio By Moroder," "Give Life To Music," and "Contact" are solid. The rest is utterly forgettable, except for "Touch," which is pretty bad. It's a hugely uneven album. When they combined the computerized dance they helped create with disco, it worked really well. When they tried anything else, it didn't. This is essentially a legacy award. They won because their first two albums practically invented a sub-genre yet went completely unrecognized by NARAS. Getting a bunch of unheralded, but well respected session musicians to play on it certainly helped too.
