I mean clearly this is what they think of black people. This was in honor of MLK. Jersey's, watermelon and the "hood". How is that NOT racist? Any sort of prejudice you have against a certain race is racism.
|
Oh my god I never said it wasn't racist, lmfaooo. Stop twisting words. Wow.
I'm saying I doubt any of the seriously racist comments that may/may not have been said at the party are even HALF as serious as some of the things being said in this thread.

Yes, your white counterpart has certain advantages over you, better opportunities than you, better life expectancy than you--but that is what the white supremacist culture that was created by a group of white people and partially by the government have wrongfully induced. Your white counterpart, aka the white boy sitting in front of you in class, is not to blame.
Re-analyze who is really oppressing you. The white boy sitting in front of you in class or something much larger.

*ideology, babe.
But let me sink down to your level. Your posts are the written equivalent of an adult, hands on knees, hunched over, explaining something to a child.
My future posts, in response, will go something. Like. This.
Let's take it back.

Of course that would be your fave! That beached orca makes nothing but waves and I'm glad you have the color scheme to match and make her feel at home!
Free Willy everyone!
Maybe you can lead problematic white people, as their spokesperson, far, far away into this...ocean ( Pacific! Atlantic! Maybe Arctic!) deep, deep into the waters, lest a white man spear YOU and YOUR fave for profit, first.
That felt great.

So with that, I believe blacks and whites TOGETHER need to cause a reform in the system by helping blacks get to those opportunities and goals. That's the high road. Not kissing ass, ignoring the problem, and like most of you are doing--holding a grudge against an entire race rather than a group of individual persons.

Girl bye. Stay dreaming. That's not ever happening. Read your history. The concept of the white race was created for the sole purpose of oppressing black people and making sure they remain then lowest class. The white elite haven't been interested in equality for the last 300 years. The grand scheme of things will remain the same regardless of how the minority behave. Stop being so naive

Yes, it sucks to suffer for things people did in the past, but white people in America suffer far less from our ancestor's action than the minorities they oppressed.
I hope this helps you gain some perspective.

It's a perspective I've already come to known and still come to disagree with. I don't blame individuals for events that they themselves did not cause, but I blame those who took a more active mindset to make sure blacks are at the bottom of the totem pole.

last time i checked, no one in the United States is still alive who has experienced slavery first-hand. You're what, 17? And you've faced hundreds of years of slavery, racism, and oppression? Oh my.

I know y'all are offended but no need to offend white people in this thread.
Stop using 'redneck' freely.

stop being facetious it's insulting you know exactly what he meant. The fact you didn't dispel the truthful statement that so called rednecks haven't face social/institutional oppression and racism on the same level as blacks. Just proved his point entirely

Police has stopped black males for no reason other than being suspicious because of a stereotype.
Let me quote myself to explain better.
We have this stigma of being thugs who eat watermelon and can't afford nice things are always looking to steal.
This longterm stigma and stereotype doesn't compare to some comments made on here.

I agree, well said and there's no doubt the issue is a lot worse. I'm just as much against the racist things being said in this thread as you are. What I'm saying is: you shouldn't fight racism with racism.

The connecting of Blacks to chicken and watermelon was done with the intention of dehumanizing Blacks, to subject them to ridicule, and to justify and solidify the discriminatory practices of Jim Crow.
Although the odd item existed during the Reconstruction period, an explosion of Coon chicken and watermelon imagery occurred at the turn-of-the-century, just as a whole new generation of Black Americans was achieving adulthood who had never known the trauma of slavery firsthand, and who resisted the second-class citizen status imposed on them by Jim Crow. As these "New Negroes" pushed against segregation, they were met with a more violent pushback by White reactionaries. The Ku Klux Klan was reborn, and membership soared, as did White-on-Black vigilante violence, including the lynching of Blacks.
Concurrently, mainstream White America did their part to maintain the status quo by producing and consuming an endless river of anti-Black imagery, including items depicting coons as obsessed with chicken and watermelon.
Nowhere is this more evident than in the imagery found on postcards. There are dozens of them, produced by Whites, marketed by Whites, sold by Whites, purchased by Whites, and sent through the official mail to other Whites, allowing the "in" group to share in the mocking and dehumanizing of the "other" over long distances

The origin of the stereotype is explained here.
