Like, not even a Pepsi can in sight! This is typical of Beyonce because I can't really remember product placement, but it just goes to show how real she takes her craft to be.

I think she understands brand awareness. Outside of the Hip-Hop community, America or the world isn't big on people who brag about their wealth, which is why Thrift Shop or Royals was so big.
Using excessive product placement can come off too corporate and materialize your brand. That is why that article about Jay's brand declining after the Samsung deal was probably true because it seemed too calculated.
I think one of the reasons Beyoncé is selling so well is because she is connecting on a more personable level and it is taking away from her "I'm better than you and perfect" attitude that people "say" they get from her. With that being said I'm glad no product placement was used.
Also, to continue the essay, it was a GREAT idea for them not to release the album after the Super Bowl. Between the halftime show, $50 million Pepsi deal, magazine covers, and Inauguration scandal, her star power was at an all time high, but her relatability level probably dropped. Because she waited, it seemed more authentic, and that's why it will have a lot more longevity.
