It is a catch 22. On the one hand only people who were there can have their opinion count. Yet by the same token those are the same people whose opinions are probably the most biased.

My last post on this topic (because I don't want to clog in here plus I got some tea that you like to argue to the death
) It's not just opinions, there's facts about how the site has changed in it's own culture that makes it less enjoyable. For example, all the new rules and policies, the endless abuse of the lingo, etc.
You can choose to deny it but most people who have seen the site (not even joined but just seen) pre 2012 would agree.
