If we want to count past exposure what did Britney in 2007 do for her now, you would expect her to be bigger than ever, but now she has a flop album, flop singles, flop tour and flop t special, she was a decent tabloid starlet for a while.

I see ads and commercials all the time by artists I've never even heard of. I didn't know it was exclusive to Beyoncé.
And to answer the question to the thread, NO.

Yes, Britney is the pop icon and Christina is a vocal icon.
I don't know why people see Beyoncé as an icon tbh.
She never made anything that stands out, she's just so boring.
I'm sorry but Christina and Brit's bubblegum pop eras were more interesting than anything Beyoncé has done.
Rihanna is even more iconic than Beyoncé.
I really wish I could say that Bey's an icon because she has a good voice but she always falls short on the creativity part that other icons had like Madonna, Michael, etc.

The fact that Xtina hasn't had one moment where she was more headlined/searched than Beyonce since before 2004.
She was so close when she flubbed the national anthem, but no cigar.

Once upon a time there was a singer called Christina Aguilera, now is a back up singer and a singing teacher that have not been able to win the voice once, even with her scream sorry voice.

Would the media have had the same response to any random artist releasing their album in such a manner? You're going straight into what happened while ignoring the who and why bit.
The frenzy following the release was because of her name and her name alone. Period. She did not announce, release a single anything other than simply upload her album and the world did the rest. SHE did not promote the project.
|
She didn't promote the album before it got released, indeed.
BUT after it got released it got the promo of a normal album sis.
And don't tell me that TV channels in ****ing Belgium would be bothered to make their own commercials for her album like they were her biggest stans.
Cause they're not, that stuff gets send out by the labels and we all know that.
I literally see a commercial for the album every two days on TV and the only other album that I noticed that got the same treatment is ARTPOP.
Also the Facebook documentary parts aren't promo?
Yeah indeed, you can stop with the no promo excuse, maybe Miss Beyoncé didn't bother to go to a radiostation but her label def. did their work and it's not like she was exactly out of the spotlight in 2013 right?

Are you trolling? I never saw any ads for Britney's album and if there was it was probably in just selected areas whereas Beyonce' promo was literally everywhere. I had to watch her album ad before watching videos on Youtube. It got annoying after a while.

Madonna herself refereed to Bey as "Queen".
Not to mention she got that critical acclaim this era. Your point is invalid

I don't think you understand what "selling by name alone" means. Both Britney Jean and BEYONCÉ are self titled albums BUT the difference is that Britney did NOTHING to promote either her singles or her album, no penny was spent in the promotion of the album and because of that it flopped hard. Beyonce had the whole iTunes Banner, Youtube ads, Facebook ads and pretty much in every website I logged in there was a Beyonce picture with an iTunes link. $16 is cheap for a brand new album with 14 songs and 17 music videos. And lets not forget all the exposure she got this year: Tour, Superbowl, etc.
|
What? A single is the single greatest and most effective means of promo an album can have. Britney had a single, pre-release promotional appearances, pre-release album streaming on iTunes as well as web advertising. It didn't flop because there wasn't promotion; it flopped because Britney either doesn't care or isn't able (there are obviously psychological/emotional factors beyond her control as well) to maintain her name and brand and there is hardly any interest as a result.
Beyonce uploaded the album with literally NOTHING -- no single, no notice, no pre-release album streaming -- the 80k people (75% of Britney Jean's first full week) that purchased the album within three hours of availability had heard nothing in the tracklist (aside from possibly hearing the short snippets available on iTunes) and proceeded to purchase anyway. That is selling on name alone. The massive internet and media frenzy that followed, that is star and brand power. People still care about and trust Beyonce's brand. $16 is a lot to ask of someone for an album and videos that haven't been seen or heard; but hundreds of thousands of people did it anyway, because of the name.

I am clearly referring to the pre-release and what Bey herself has done on behalf of this project.
Banners and commercials are cool, but people aren't going to buy a product if they're not interested in what is being presented. Period.

Madonna performed live with Britney and Christina.
Madonna collaborated with Britney on a video and single.
Madonna also liked Rihanna.
Critical acclaim happened to Christina as well.
If anyone's point is invalid than it's yours.

When did those happen? A decade ago? Madonna called Beyoncé "Queen" just the other week.
As for Christina having critical acclaim

You were saying 'no promo was done for this project'.
Didn't say before it and you know damn well that many people bought Beyoncé's album because many people bought it.
'4' got many videos as well and wasn't as successful as this album.
It was even better too, I'm sure that quite a lot of people just bought it to see what all the fuss was about.

Bee has showed to all of us she still have something to show, her previous era '4' was a epic fail but with Beyoncé she showed us how good and smart she is. She taught Gaga how to release an art pop album....

This thread isn't about Beyoncé having promo, so why is that being discussed? The album is slaying and there is nothing you can say to discredit it.
These Christina stans.

It's Madonna, she's been around since the 80's + if she would have called her 'Queen' when she started out you'd still be using it cause then it wouldn't matter to you when it was said.

Yes, based on her name and voice alone.

You really tried didn't you? Like I said, no penny was spent in the promo and if some interviews is all you have to defend your arguement than I fell bad for you.
Lets get something straight tho: Britney Jean is a bad album, as a stan I feel offended by it. If it wasn't for Alien I would call it straight up trash. BEYONCÉ is a better album in every level but that isn't a compliment. Its still an overrated album that pales in comparision to "4" but that's another subject.
I stan for the 3 girls in discussion and Im being as objective as possible. This is how the Icon status levels go:
1) Britney & Christina
2) Beyonce
