That interview snippet was jumped on by the gossip media because that interview showed that the gossip media were blatantly liars and had been for a year. Taylor stated on the record that she had dated only 2 people since 2010 - which is Conor and Harry.
She was effectively saying the gossip media had been completely full of ****, with their constant talk about her dating everyone all throughout 2011 and 2012. So in order to draw attention away from this, the gossip media misquoted her about Mean Girls and pretended Taylor was insulting Tina and Amy and saying they would burn in hell. They blew this up into a big issue in order to hide the fact that they had been called out on all their dating BS for the past two years. Of course the idiot readers lapped it up. The media were hiding their previous lies by shouting out new ones.
If only the VF interview had just had Taylor talking about her dating only 2 people and she had made no comment about the Golden Globes, then the Gossip media would have been exposed as the BS merchants they are. Taylor should just go in hard on them in her next interview and talk about how they just make up lies and cannot be trusted.
