A Red Crush of YECA past returns with a new current hit single.
I keep on thinking this is Lights but I don't think she has a single right now. Wild guess: Ellie Goulding-Burn
An emerging electronic artist appears with their first of two singles on the top 100.
Avicii or Disclosure? I don't know both of them are "emerging" artists though
A big current single from a popular pop rock act impacts the top 100 after I literally just got into the song a couple of weeks ago.
Imagine Dragons-Radioactive/Demons?Paramore-Still Into You?
The first of FOUR top 100 singles from one of my favorite albums of the year arrives, and it has much more of a chance of impacting in 2014 than it did this year.
I'll just copy the other answer and say it's CHVRCHES
The first of two singles from a beloved and critically acclaimed alternative act lies in this set, and it also looks to have a bigger impact in 2014.
Arcade Fire is my best bet followed by Vampire Weekend.

Let me try guessing...

Well going based on what others have said ( ) I could see this being Burn for sure.

I guess Disclosure?

THE TOP 100 SINGLES BEGINS!
Love the CANCON from this set! Serena Ryder, and Danko Jones. Great selections, and "Stompa" really is a good song. I know what you mean about NIN's "Everything" haha, but I really love it because of that. Definitely sticks out when you listen to the album, but on its own I think it's a perfect little song. Love "Bound 2" and it's nice to see The Killers on your list! GREAT START.
As for your game, I genuinely tried to figure some of them out, and i'm at a loss. Probably because i'm terrible at knowing what songs are singles. Regardless, I love that you are doing this contest. You are the Ed McMahon of ATRL, handing out iTunes/Amazon cards instead of Publishers Clearing House checks. YES!
Great stuff, looking forward to WHAT'S NEXT.

Nice start. "Alive" and "Shot At The Night" being my favorite ones.
Agree with what you said about "Bound 2" and its awful sample. That makes me dislike the song even more than I dislike Kanye.

That's okay, you just compared me to Ed McMahon. That's more than enough of a compliment.
Well, I can tell you that none of you who have taken part in the giveaway so far have gotten ALL of them right. Some of the guesses are, actually, way off. I'll update soon, after I get to commenting on year-enders, and you'll find out how wrong some of you were. Maybe I should make the hints easier.

The Yeca: Top 100 Singles (90-81, Part One: The Singles)
Okay, let's get right to it!

| Zedd ft. Hayley Williams
Stay the Night
Let's get one thing out of the way right now: This is not better than "Clarity", despite Hayley Williams appearing on this track. "Clarity" had the benefit of being first, of course, but Zedd could have changed things up a bit to help things feel more fresh. Zedd doesn't really have too many sounds, though. This is just about the only sound he can really make. He's good at it, but it can get old really quickly. Still, the song is on the top 100, and if you don't understand why it is here, you don't know me very well. I'll give you a hint: It's Hayley Williams, giving one hell of a vocal performance, as she always does. |

| Sevendust
Decay
As some of you might know (actually, who am I kidding, none of you would know this), I've liked Sevendust for quite a long time, dating back to my early days as a music fan. My excitement for the band tempered a bit as I got older, though, mostly because their newer material didn't quite match the excitement of past efforts. 2013 gave us the first new Sevendust material in a long time, though, in Black Out the Sun, and with it came the first single, "Decay". And my god, the first time that I listened to this song, I was suddenly transported back to 2002, a much less stressful and wonderful time for me. I would have said that this is the best Sevendust song that I've heard in a decade...but there's still another song of theirs to come. |

| Paramore
Now
I think that most people will agree that "Now" is not the best Paramore single. Musically, it can be interesting, but this song just doesn't feel right. That's primarily because of Hayley Williams' vocals. They're not bad, because Hayley Williams can never sing poorly, but they're out of place on a track like this. Paramore has a lot of strong suits, but a song like this is not one of them. Having said that, the music in this song is among the most interesting that Paramore has recorded. The combination of the music and Hayley's vocals, though, just doesn't fit. Still, it says a lot about my love of Paramore that this still made the top 100, despite everything I just said. |

| Skillet
Not Gonna Die
Don't look now, but Skillet are starting to become a somewhat recurring artist on the YECA! They never seem to chart very high, but they are always a presence somewhere in my life in any given year. What's most interesting is how much I grew to hate a certain side of Skillet this year. Songs like "Sick of It" tired on me really quickly, and I really began to hate songs in their discography that sounded like it. On the other hand, you have "Not Gonna Die", which is Skillet doing what they do best: Violins and cello, complete with hard rock power and dueling vocals between John Cooper and a female vocalist, who, most recently, has been Jen Ledger. This is Skillet. Anything less is a poor substitute. |

| Ellie Goulding
Burn
Is this a natural progression of ANYTHING for Ellie Goulding? Honestly, no. If anything, it's somewhat of a regression from her incredible "Lights" sound. The reason why "Lights" amazed so many people, myself included, is that it felt incredible intricate and complex. It was, structurally, one of the most interesting pop songs of the last decade. "Burn" is not complex at all. It's (dare I say it) generic. But I'll be damned if Ellie Goulding herself didn't save it in the end. It says a lot about Ellie's talent that she can take such a generic and uninteresting song and turn it into a banger. I just hope that her next album is more "Figure 8" and less...this. |

| Vampire Weekend
Unbelievers
One of Vampire Weekend's two songs this year, "Unbelievers" almost entirely missed for me in 2013. It wasn't until the end of the year that I really began to connect with the track. That was mostly because of the thumping beat and Ezra Koenig's gorgeous vocals. Still, it was not quite enough to justify placing it higher, given that I just recently really got into the song. That's completely my fault, I know, but it is what it is. Make no mistake about it, though: This is a contender in 2014. We're talking top 40, at least. |

| Daft Punk ft. Julian Casablancas
Instant Crush
Speaking of songs that look to impact more in 2014, meet the first of four Daft Punk singles on this top 100. Just recently announced as a single, "Instant Crush" had ZERO time to really impact me as a single. It did impact me on Random Access Memories, but every song had an impact on me from that album. At least it gets a chance to shine on its own in 2014, and I fully expect it to be a big hit for me next year. I mostly love how this track feels like a modern take on the 80's sound, complete with the modern stylings of Julian Casablancas on vocals. His voice just FITS here. There's no other way to put it. |

| The Neighbourhood
Afraid
It may not be higher than "Sweater Weather", but I think that I'm going to like "Afraid" more in the long run. Most of that has to do with severe overplay on the part of the former, but "Afraid" is not in danger of being overplayed. It's just not mainstream. And that's a really good thing. This song, way more than "Sweater Weather", gave me an idea of what The Neighbourhood can really provide: Doom and gloom, with a pinch of epic. "Sweater Weather" isn't really a good indicator of what The Neighbourhood can be. "Afraid"? That's an entirely different story. |

| Chromeo
Over Your Shoulder
I did not give this song a fair shake, and it's inexplicable to me why I wouldn't. Chromeo had a HUGE impact on my 2010, particularly their awesome single "Don't Turn the Lights On", and yet, a new single is announced and I'm not all that interested. I still can't explain it. I've listened to "Over Your Shoulder" since then, and it just does not leave THAT much of an imprint on me. So, how is this song #82? Well, because deep down, I know that this song is better than I'm treating it. This is, at the very least, a top 70 song that I completely shafted for other, inferior songs. Then again, that seems to be a staple of the YECA Singles list. |

| OneRepublic
Counting Stars
I literally just got into this song a couple of weeks ago. I guess I have this song's massive success to thank for that. Easily OneRepublic's biggest solo hit, "Counting Stars" works primarily because it's everything OneRepublic is not. It's an upbeat, quick tempo tune that feels frantic, especially for a band that specializes in low-tempo ballads like OneRepublic. Ryan Tedder, in particular, shines here with perhaps his best overall vocal performance, sounding at times both hurried and soulful. The production is also inspired, creating a very slick and powerful tune that stands out when it's played on the radio. And somehow, I only JUST NOW got into the song. *sigh* I'm such a bad music listener. |
|
And THAT is the second set! I would normally give out hints here, but because we're doing the Hint Giveaway, I'm saving that for its own post. See you then (and, hopefully, in the next post)!

The YECA: Top 100 Singles (90-81, Part Two: Hints #2!)
Okay, before we go on with the second round of hints, I need to make one rule apparent here and now, so that everyone becomes better at guessing and gets more credit: Unless I ask for something specific (see the hints for the next set to see what I mean), I'm asking for both the song and the artist. Don't just guess the artist, because, even if you are right, you will only get partial credit.
Alright, let's go!

HINTS #2
Two artists that appeared in the last set will appear in this set. Name them. (I'm looking SPECIFICALLY for the artists here, not the songs...but getting the songs may also get you bonus credit.)
Not one, but two singles from a returning rock giant and legend appear.
Another artist that appeared in this most recent set appears again in the upcoming set...but not as the featured artist.
One of my all-time favorite bands makes their first of three appearances with a song that was just released as a single.
Another long-time (as in I've loved them for over a decade) Red favorite makes a surprising collaboration with a dubstep/electro producer with surprising success.
Happy guessing! And keep in mind that the ranking will not be a set-by-set ranking. It will be a cumulative ranking based on your guesses for all of the sets. This means that some of you who missed out on the first hints can still very easily do damage from this point forward, so get to guessing!
