I would say it belongs. It's the most influential/revered Jazz album ever, and I'd much rather have it in the rate than another rock album
Perhaps this is my ignorance, but it just seems like a jazz album would be a natural point of comparison to a bunch of rock, pop and R&B albums. The form and intention is so different.

It is different, but the album actually influenced a lot of Rock musicians, so it sorta makes sense? It's not an extremely 'hard' or abrasive listen.
