The problem is that there isn't an established rule, this is really the first time there has been a case like this. Even the work the guy did in the Lord of the Rings with motion capture was different. So we'll see. I'm glad they're going to do press for her! Even just a nomination would be historic.

No, the one they mentioned in the article you posted. Andy Serkis' motion capture work as Gollum was considered a major Oscar snub. I've never seen any of those movies so I can't comment.

Regarding Sandra as a potential winner for actress--I just don't get it. The movie is 100% all about the effects, Sandra's role could've been done by anyone, i feel. She didn't deserve it for "The Blind Side" & she doesn't for "Gravity"--The nominations are (/should be) her prize.
