This was exactly what I was thinking and going to post, gave up because I was scared of being called delusional.
But that's actually right. Maybe the only thing from radio that should be included in chart position of a song is how many people requested the song.
That would mean requests would have to be tracked, and they're not because requests are a farce.

It's mostly about promotion and it's all done very fair, for example the big radio stations aren't allowed to spin songs which are over a month before release. So everyone gets a fair 1 month time-span of airplay to build on, then it's basically all down to promotion and whether radio wants to play your song.
Plus I think it makes the music industry much more exciting as the chart can change every week and be completely different. It get's so boring in the U.S seeing the same songs in the top 10 for like 4 months.
I get what you guys are saying, I really do. Especially since all the radio deals, which in my opinion is a modern way of payola. But there should be some kind of combination between sales and radio airplay. Sales should weigh more than anything out there, but I don't think the best selling song of one week is a hit. Especially when we have artists with a strong fanbase like Onedirection and Justin Bieber. Every newly song they release, goes top 10 in the UK, and falls of the chart a week or few after.
It's a good thing though, people think it makes it easier to get a #1, but it actually makes it extremely hard because there is more competition and because it's sales only, everyone is on a level-playing field.
UTT would have been #1 and so would Wrapped In Red if Kelly did the same promo in the UK as she did in the US, it would have been a 21-sized era

In an interview with January's GQ magazine, Robertson discussed his views on "sin," comparing homosexuality with bestiality. Yesterday (Dec. 18), that comment, among others, started to spread through social networks like wildfire. A&E then released a statement, saying that they were "extremely disappointed to have read" Robertson's quotes, and had placed him "under hiatus from filming indefinitely."
The album was released on Oct. 29 by 4 Bears/EMI Nashville/Universal Music Group Nashville. It is unknown if Robertson's comments will alter any promotional activity planned for the album this week.
A spokesperson for Universal Music Group Nashville declined to comment.
"Duck the Halls" is currently at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart, spending its seventh consecutive week in the top 10. The album spent four straight weeks at No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart.

They're getting a sales boost because Phil Robertson got suspended from the A&E Network. I'm kind of annoyed because his comments were very offensive. His comments about African Americans before the civil rights movement was very insensitive, as well. I hope we get a miracle and WIR somehow comes out on top. Maybe the promo she's getting Christmas day? Maybe?
I feel like basing singles charts on just sales would make it kind of redundant with the album chart. By including airplay there is more potential to highlight songs that had more crossover success as opposed to just being front loaded with sales from stans.
