A three part harmony semi-cover of Kendrick Lamar's "Swimming Pools (Drank)" performed by the three original members of Sugababes, and only their second time recording together since their 2000 debut. Mutya's unmistakeably deep rumble of a voice collides with Keisha and Siobhan's more delicate tones over a near climatic hook. It would be perfect if any of the work from their forthcoming album reflects what they bought to this track. Keisha's run @ 3:03 alone is one of my favorite musical moments of 2013.
A fourteen track compilation of Chi-town's own RP Boo features this otherworldly track built damn near entirely from one-note bass and the most random vocal tics. The voices' tick-tock ejaculations, psychedelic overtones and sparse arrangement seep into a listener's skull creating a hellish clout of dread and airiness. I imagine this would be better if you smoke weed to it so I strongly recommend this to ATRL's pothead sector.
This bitch right here My fellow Brooklyn bred sister in homosexuality, Cakes da Killa, released her second mixtape this past summer, and most of it pretty much trumps anything Nicki or Azealia have done in a while. Amazing how a gay man can play up the materialistic, conceited femcee trope better than biological women. Listening to 'High Tides', it's obvious Cakes was raised under the tutelage of Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown but also brings the angle of being a young gay man to his rhymes. The average hip-hop head might find his lyrics and subject matter a little too out there but if a gay man can listen to a heterosexual rapper brag about how many women he likes to ****, why can't the roles be reversed?
