Seriously though, this is exactly what No Doubt did with their comeback last year: performing one new song + their big hits that have withstood 10, 15, almost 20 years. It was obvious they/Interscope were banking on their old classics helping to push the new stuff. What happened instead? Every time they appeared on TV, their new stuff did nothing on iTunes, while Tragic Kingdom and Don't Speak shot back into the top 100
I'd rather see Gaga continue to push the new material than make herself seem like she's already doing a retrospective on her career (besides the VMAs performance of course
). Otherwise I'm pretty sure we'd just see TFM back on the Billboard 200 one week while ARTPOP tumbles down
