Actually remixing Katy's singles were made to save the song because her team wanted her to match MJ's 5 number 1's from one album, so yes, despite the songs making it to number 2 or whatever the remixes were what pushed it to number one and "saved" the songs...
Remixing to push the song from Top 3 to #1 is not the same as remixing a song to get it to go Top 10 at all.
since girl is remixing anyways, why doesn't she release an remix EP, like:

04. Urban remix #1 (made by stems, new instrumental)
