It's not that I'm ignorant, because I have close friends who are socially awkward, and of course they don't want to be socially awkward but when they don't do themselves favours or even make some sort of effort it's hard to sympathise...

This will be hard for you to comprehend since you pride yourself on being so socially advanced, but you and this girl both seem to have social anxiety in your own ways. She makes you just as uncomfortable as you make her. Actually, since you have to write about it online and get advice, you probably think about her more than she thinks about you.

Anyway, it seems like you are treating her like a project to prove that you are so social that you can cure her (aka make her more like you). She probably wishes she could make you as quiet as her, too...she just isn't outgoing enough to do so. No, because I realize everyone adapts differently to social situations. Not everyone is an immediate social butterfly, and there are many reasons why they are that way.

Like other people have said in the thread, it sounds as if you've taken her on as a 'project' to transform her. You aren't doing her any favors by doing that. If you're so annoyed by her then just leave her alone.
