Well, it's true those numbers are disastrous, especially when you're comparing Gaga's first two weeks to her fellow pop girls. Yet, no one with healthy mind woulda expected Artpop to slay the charts. It clearly ain't a significant musical departure from Born This Way. I mean, lyrically, since musically it's closer to The Fame, but still, you can hear some BTW influences on Artpop. The thing is, when she said Artpop was gonna be a happy and commercial album, everyone went crazy and no one even thought what she actually meant by saying that. She clearly doesn't understand the meaning of a 'commercial album'. Artpop is the least commercial record out of the all you mentioned. And I knew, even before listening to it, that Applause was gonna be the best single choice, even if strongly criticized for its lyrics.
If Gaga wants to be still considered a pop girl, she just has to adapt to pop standards and stop releasing pseudoartificial tracks on one understands. She went too far and I agree with her manager. It just couldn't have worked and they all knew that. I hope DWUW does its job perfectly, so she will move to Gypsy and treat it properly. I don't see Artpop rebounding and slaying charts, since it's a weak album. You can bash me, but this is the true. It's chaotic, messy, overproduced and simply too Freak-Gaga-ish. Funny that Manicure, which is probably the only 100 percent GP-friendly track, has the worst production and vocals. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next era. Still, I want DWUW and Gypsy to smash, since theyre my faves.

+1, except that Manicure is not the worst produced track on the album. There are worse.

Manicure is such a wasted potential. Sadly, the worst thing about the song are Gaga's vocals. I just cannot stand them. She's shouting instead of singing, which makes the song sound GP-unfriendly. I also don't like Dope's raw production and Aura for everything. On the other hand, Applause, Artpop, Gypsy and Fashion! are giving me life. They're perfect.

Ddd, all those messy tweets from earlier today make sense now, she must have gotten the numbers before anyone else, knew the mass dragging that would occur and tried to prevent it by spreading pseudo peace on twitter.

This is the number one problem, she will not sacrifice her "art" because she believes that it can exist in the pop world and I hope she learns that it can't.
We can't belong together is more like it

Right? No one gets her message. Sometimes I feel like even she doesn't.

If she hasn't learned this lesson yet, she never will.
Though the self-sabotage seems to be intentional, rather than miscalculation at this point.

Gaga can't sacrifice her art because she blew up thanks to not being just another pop girl, and being deeper. The problem is, her antics have become expected and staid, so anything controversial or innovative she does will just be seen as expected and try-hard. And if she goes the route of hiring pop producers and writing typical pop songs, she will be seen as selling out and lose a fraction of fans surely.
She can't win. And she got herself into this mess.

I mean, who said basic songs can't be good. Her best tracks are those with understandable lyrics, right?
