Thats it? Rihanna's Icon Award was way more historic and monumental. Rihanna is the Van Guard of the Icon Award, just like Michael Jackson was the Van Guard of the Internation Award of Excellence. 30 years from now when other pop stars win the Icon award they will always remember that Rihanna was the FIRST. 'International Artist Award of Excellence' is the AMAs HIGHEST honor. Wasn't great enough to receive that award, so they made up a 2nd rate award. Which I'm pretty sure Justin Bieber will receive since facebook likes, youtube views, twitter and instagram followers are required

Weren't all of Beyonce's supposed "legend" awards given to her (from pre-existing categories) AFTER having been in the industry 10+ years? AFTER having had a career as a member of a successful girl group AND a solo career?
An award was fashioned just to praise Rihanna for her 8th year in the industry. You didn't see the award shows scrambling to create an award just to give Beyonce in HER 8th year. Bottom line, Rihanna has accomplished more than Bey in 8 years and she was awarded accordingly and I thought her tribute was fantastic.

Actually, Billboard's Millennium Award was 8 years into her solo career, since you all ALWAYS say Destiny's Child numbers shouldn't count towards Beyonce's It still doesn't take away the fact this award is beneath Beyonce's AMA award.

Of course Beyonce's tribute was better... lol it was Beyonce. No one felt or questioned that the award was deserving.. because it was truly deserving.

Now Rihanna on the other hand.. An Icon depends on what your definition of it is. Rihanna is very successful, but is she taken seriously in this industry and well respected as an artist? Sadly, I don't think so. So many people aren't taking this award seriously.

If this award can be handed to Rihanna, I expect for Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, and maybe the likes of Ariana Grande to soon be handed this award too. Not to limit Rihanna's success, but anyone could be an icon at this point.
