Yes. Anyone can be racist. In fact, black people can be racist to other black people. But racism against whites is a whole other conversation. It's nothing of parallel to racism against minorities. So bringing it up as a counterargument for white privilege is pure avoidance. You can get beat up by black people and consider it racism, but it doesn't negate the position of whites in society.
Also, one could also argue that "racism" against whites is not really racism at all. When people of color do hate white people, it doesn't come from a place of superiority. Society structures ensure this. It's a reaction to the system being stacked against them.
In order to do something, you'd have realize and admit that there's a problem there. Which means realizing whites are at an advantage and then here we are back to the OP.
You broke up my post into pieces that benefitted your argument lol stop
Sorry Genocide, but if you're describing one race being allowed to use slurs as "segregation," you are historically ignorant and have absolutely no concept of what real segregation is or looks like.
Anyone CAN say ****** if they want to. You are not forbidden by law from saying it, and you will not be separated from society for saying it. Freedom of speech does not mean that you can say whatever you want, whenever you want. People can and will call you out for saying things the world has deemed inappropriate. That's not segregation. Blacks being forced to attend separate schools is segregation. When you whine about not being able to say a word without consequence, you sound just as childish and historically unaware as my tumblr activist.
d I've said in a sense, it is a form of it. I'm well aware it is not the type of segregation that has occurred throughout history. But by definition, yes, it is.
Technically, yes, people are permitted to say what they want. But that's not where I was getting at. I'm just saying that there are double standards; if a white person was to say the n* word, they would be bashed. But none would go up in arms if a Latino person was to say it (or they wouldn't be so quick to react, at least).
There are many examples of what I'm trying, but I don't want two page length posts, so that example is the only thing I can think of that I can skim down in a paragraph or two. I'm just saying that everyone is to blame for racism, not whites like the slide in the OP tries to imply.

The double standards exist because inequality exists. The thought process white people go through to justify using ***** still boggles me. They feel because there's ONE THING that isn't acceptable for them to do, ONE PLACE where their privilege doesn't extend to, NO ONE should be able to do it. "If I CAN'T do it then NO ONE ELSE CAN," they reason. It's self serving and disingenuous.
So until all that stuff goes away, no, white people will never have cause to justly use *****. And it makes no sense to complain because they can do everything else.
Exactly. And everyone plays a part in that. There's more to it than just that word obviously, but as I said to Jameson, I don't want extra-lengthy posts so I'ma just keep it at that. But the small stuff does add up in the end.
Another thing about the slide I don't get is how white people who acknowledge that they're privileged are to 'help' blacks. The only way to help is to make sure everyone has equal privileges
You broke up my post into pieces that benefitted your argument lol stop
Lol. Nah. Not really. I only highlighted your most pertinent points, but I addressed your concepts in full. You only had two main points in there.

"Yes, racial discrimination still exists. Be it in school, at work, on the street. Yes, white people are at the very bottom of the racial discriminatory list. But that does not change the fact that anyone can be racist. I repeat. ANYONE CAN BE RACIST."
and
Quote:
"Instead of the Internet crying and bitching and ignoring definitions of words, why don't we actually DO SOMETHING about discrimination? A restaurant doesn't hire a black person for being black? Do something. The only way to fight oppression is to fight the oppressor."
I just summed up the first one to eliminate the preface.
Every race can be and is discriminated against in some way on a daily basis, white people included. And tbh if a black person says something offensive about a white person or white people in general its often overlooked because a majority believe white people can't be discriminated against which is untrue.
Ok. But realize there's a (HUGE) difference. Saying "every race can be discriminated against" is to make light of a real problem. Discrimination, if you can even call it that, against whites is overlooked because nothing results of it. Take for example Eminem. He grew up in a black neighborhood and got the **** beaten out of him everyday. But guess what? He's white. He LEFT. He got to move on.
Black people and other people of color can't move on because white people are pretty much everywhere. Their stares, their attitudes, their ignorance, their jokes - it never goes away. You can leave and go to another place and it'll happen there too. You could be walking down the street and you're automatically a suspect.

But the judge, Shira A. Scheindlin, found that the Police Department resorted to a “policy of indirect racial profiling” as it increased the number of stops in minority communities. That has led to officers’ routinely stopping “blacks and Hispanics who would not have been stopped if they were white.”
Why do you guys always stop there? That's not the final step of this process at all, and we're there. The vast majority of people DO realize the way cards are stacked now. Stop repeating the same things that other people have already sis and give something new to the discussion.
You guys spend too much time talking the semantics of the word "racism," and not enough time talking racism itself.
Cuz we're on ATRL, sis. All we can do here is have a discussion and try to convince those who still don't see the way the cards are stacked.
But I guess for those who do understand, you have to be willing to use your position in society to further equality for minorities. It starts with the small things. I couldn't tell you what you should do because it's all personalized, but I'm personally involved with the black student association on my campus and we put on productions, hold assemblies, and other such things to combat ignorance. We also volunteer our time to teach 8, 9, and even 10 year olds colored children who don't know how to read.
Like, there are endless options. It's up to you what you want to do.
in education and the workplace? does it have anything to do with higher drop out rates, higher violent crime rates, higher likelihood of joining a gang by the age of 13, etc?

Please tell me what privilege I have? I'm a member of the LGBT community. Were discriminated against more than any race. So please, someone explain to me my privileges.

That can be up for debate and what about LGBTs of color this is the problem. We need to stop having a pissing contest on who has it harder. Both deal with struggles that are very real.
TBH IDC if whites say ***** with an A (The other one should NEVER be said tbh) as IMHO they have different context/connotation.
While I do believe racist things can happen to whites,I definitely think this 'REVERSE RACISM' epidemic is EXAGGERATED to say the least.White Privilege most definitely exists tbh and to believe otherwise is ignorant.I think there definitely needs to be some kind of civil discussion going on about this, because I find there can be a lack of understanding from both sides.
Some people should really see how underfunded minority schools tend to be,some should see the neighborhoods many minority individuals live in (not to say whites don't live there, there are some that do) and conditions they have to endure in those neighborhoods. It amazes me how some people act as if minorities are the ONLY people that use welfare, and then act as if they all LIKE using it. I mean, have you EVER been inside those OLD, UTILITARIAN,UNCOMFORTABLE apartments in the hood?
I'm sure whites have their own issues that they have to deal with but PLEASE STOP complaining about 'minorities having it easier'
HBCUs are only that in name;ANYONE can apply and get accepted in one
BET is only a channel aimed at a certain Demographic.ALL CHANNELS DO THAT,HELL, MANY CHAIN STORES DO IT.Please stop calling that channel racist for doing what other businesses do.
Stop throwing bitch fits when Black Girls Rock comes on.Black Women already get the short end of the stick in the media.Jealousy just makes you bad.
Though the NAACP has a political agenda,it STILL serves a purpose.
And Finally,
ASK a black before you touch their hair.Seriously,it will save you a lot of the hassle and awkwardness
Nnnnnn @ some of you in here saying white people all need to admit they're privileged like we all need to apologize for something we did. The idea of white people needing to "spread the word" to other whites about being privileged is so ignorant. Quit. Assuming. ****. Due. To. Someones. Skin. Color.

No one said you have to apologize for your skin color. But admitting that you have more advantages of your skin color is something you have to do if you want us to all truly be equal.
LGBT vs Minority argument is apples to oranges tbh. They will NEVER be the same struggle.I am NOT going to act as if one group gets more discriminated than another bexause that's beside the point.
White Privilege in itself is a complex concept,it's not all cut & dry
Some will never understand because they don't care to understand. Just two things that I'd like add my $.02 and I'll be done:
1.) Understanding White privilege is not about being or becoming some overzealous White apologist nor is it about trying to spread the notion that because one's skin is white, their life will automatically be a sunny cake walk with no difficulties. Life is hard, it's one hell of an obstacle course for EVERYBODY -- being White doesn't mean life is easy. That's not what "White privilege" is. Being White does mean you won't face the extra obstacles that go along with being Black and Brown in the US in addition to the every day difficulties everyone faces in life.
In Jane Elliot's blue-eyed/brown-eyed experiments (see the first video I posted), the children she separated White children by eye color and the groups that were given the inferior group treatment (brown eyed) performed at a significantly lower rate on test given after a short period of being subjected discrimination over their eye color. The following day she flipped it and treated the blue eyed children the way that she treated and it yielded the exact same results -- the blue eyed children performed poorly on a test given after a day of being subjected to discriminatory treatment. The psychological effects of being subjected to discrimination and treated as inherently inferior are very, very real. Understanding White privilege simply means understanding that you will not have to deal with being seen and treated as inherently inferior because of your race on a widespread and institutionalized scale.
Perhaps if people began phrasing it differently some White people wouldn't be so quick to scoff, sigh and roll their eyes and say, "I'm not privileged" -- you're not automatically blessed because you're White. It's just that there are certain disadvantages you will never have and never even have to consider because you are White.
2.) Equality is not about pretending everyone is the same because it makes you more comfortable than acknowledging their differences (because acknowledging those differences reminds you of the already negative connotations you've associated with different races). Equality is about being able to see differences and no treat anyone differently because of them.
Pretending race doesn't exist isn't the way to equality. Having to imagine that people are the same as you in order to treat them equally isn't true equality. If you can't look at someone as they are -- of different racial backgrounds, ethnic backgrounds, cultural backgrounds -- and be ok with it and not treat them as inferior or superior because they are simply different, that is problematic. The ridiculous notion of being color blind and not seeing race is an attempt to sweep under the rug without truly acknowledging the problem to correct it.
Grouping all white people together with statements like "your ****" doesn't help anyone. Generalizing and stereotyping all white people based off one ignorant comment doesn't help anyone. You've gone so far into the social justice rabbit hole you've come out on the opposite side. If what you are taking away from power points like this is that you should dislike individual white people for the unearned privilege of their whiteness, you have missed the entire point.
There is no opposite end of the "social justice rabbit hole". You're trying to be thoughtful, which is commendable, but i'm not like you. I don't respect everyone's opinion.
See, I wasn't grouping all white people together, I grouped all the loudest white people together.

Why are some white posters in here
Why?
I was watching a documentary not too long ago. It was the Brown Eye-Blue Eye experiment conducted by a white teacher, Jane Elliot. Maybe you've seen it. The experiment was about discrimination and how it can affect the performance of a student. This was in England and one of the white women who participated in the experiment kept challenging the teacher. She was the loudest and stuck out because she was being way too defensive. That makes her suspicious in my eyes.
Here it is
The reason Jane Elliot even came up with the experiment is to let white people know what it feels like to be discriminated against. They don't know. How could they know? I'm not saying it's their fault, but they need to recognize that. When they don't, it becomes a problem IMO. I saw that happening in this thread.
And I don't dislike white people. I love women like Jane Elliot, who aren't afraid to piss people off. She got her message across just fine.

A white/straight/male cannot help being born into privilege any more than a black/gay/woman can help being born into disadvantage. Any "activist" who seeks to mock, trivialize, or silence individual white voices is missing the entire point of the movement they claim to support. There is no faster way to show that you are uneducated on the material.
How did I show I was uneducated on the material? You didn't like my post, 'cause you knew it was gonna piss people off and you thought I was being dismissive. Well I kinda disgree with the way you think tho. It's not important to me that "individual white voices" are silenced or heard. They can and will speak freely. But it's not their voice that needs to be heard right now. What is important on their part is that they understand the message that is coming from others. That is how I feel about this matter.
And they're not all gonna be understanding and respectful like you're trying to be. The actual real life conversations I've had with "individual white voices" on matters like this went nowhere. Kept going in circles about this very thing. "What is racism and why do only black people get to say the n word?" Our discussions always ended up with them going on a rant about double standards. Always. That might explain the tone of my post now that I think about it.

And for the record, simply being a minority does not automatically make you right about issues like these. You still have to be educated and thoughtful. Making it[ "Well I'm a PoC and you're white so shut up, check your privilege, I'm right" removes any need for dialogue, and removes any requirement for you to back up your claims with statistics and evidence. Its toxic to debate and completely destroys the point of discussion
It didn't, in fact I did the opposite, short of posting statistics which I was about to, I listed actual problems people have faced over the years thanks to racism. My post may have been abrasive i'll admit, but I had reason for posting it.
And forgive for not being thoughtful on ATRL, where they call Beyoncé and Rihanna monkeys.
No one said you have to apologize for your skin color. But admitting that you have more advantages of your skin color is something you have to do if you want us to all truly be equal.
I never said anyone said that. Please learn how to read. I recommend "Goodnight Moon" as a starter
