HOWGH after the album release saw a 65% increase on paid On-Demand services (jumping from #4 to #1). An 86% increase in Streaming (jumping from #12 to #6). Also, it had a 13% increase in Audience Impressions to 120 million. THAT'S why it had a jump in the Hot 100. Miley had almost the identical thing happen. Its not that complicated.

The % doesn't matter. It was still only a 1 million difference in streams and 3 million on radio. It's plain sight those small gaps won't offset the basically 100k lead in sales WMU had.

Billboard didn't post Drake's sales for the week, but the differences in what they did post was significant enough for him to pass Avicii. Drake's CMA returns may not have been that significant. He may have had an aggregate total of 180k to Avicii's 184k for the week.
Like I said, for a single that's returned, it's silly to think the sale would count towards the Hot 100, when the $1.29 purchase was technically reserving for the album.
The article made sure to point out it's an aggregate total... a combination. Combining the positive sales with the negative returns for the total outcome.
(200k actual sales) + (-60k CMA returns) = 140 aggregate sales to count towards the Hot 100. It literally is THAT simple. It's not like EVERY person who purchased the song elected for the CMA option. But that article states that's exactly how it's done.

As previously reported, Cyrus' debut RCA album "Bangerz" debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 270,000 copies sold. "Ball" drops 3-4 on Digital Songs (which it led four weeks ago) with 128,000 downloads sold, a 40% decline; its sales slide is owed to iTunes' customers who opted to "complete" the "Bangerz" album by upgrading their earlier purchase of "Ball" to a full album. Effectively, consumers who completed the album were returning a song, thus augmenting the song's sales drop this week. (For the purposes of Hot 100 rankings, aggregate sales and returns contribute to the song's overall point total.)

If you read the whole article, it states the 40% in Miley's sales were due to the CMA options. C'mon guys... I mean really. They were vague on all the other stats she had, but it's spelled out for us right here. Literally a 40% decline in sales due to the CMA option. Are you guys being serious here or are you trolling me and I'm falling for it?

Again, the 140K figure in your example is only for the HDS chart. The full 200K is used for Hot 100 purposes. You said it yourself. Aggregate is a combination. The returns in that scenario aren't negative sales. They're still single sales.
Technically, the "returned" songs have already been sold in previous weeks, and already counted on HDS and the Hot 100 for those chart weeks. HDS subtracts returns from CMA for the posted weekly sales because they can't retroactively change sales from previous weeks to subtract those sales.

The article states that the 40% decline was due to the CMA option. Billboard already stated that this was the case. Until they state otherwise, CMA option counts as a negative sale... hence Miley's 40% decrease in sales that week. Look for a similar thing to happen with Katy Perry this week.
When you buy the single (from the album) and then you chose the CMA option, you are returning the single & purchasing the album (stated by Billboard) affecting the single sales. In this case, it was "Wrecking Ball" and next week Katy Perry will see the same thing. The example I used is accurate and correct. I don't know why this is so hard to understand. It's in the article... they clarify it.

It's obvious your (wrong) understanding will never change despite any thorough explanation, so let's just leave it at that.

The article that Billboard themselves posted is on my side, so I'm good.
( Sidenote: Good grief what happened to "Gaycat"?!?!?!?!?!?)

No, it's not. You probably missed that last sentence in the article you quoted, which is exactly what umich posted earlier in this thread.

I already addressed the sentence afterwards...
Aggregate just means the combination.
(200k Single Sales) + (-60k CMA option) = 140k total sales to count towards the Hot 100. Just like Miley's 40% decrease that was used towards the Hot 100 calculation.

1) Roar
2) Royals
3) Wake Me Up
4) Wrecking Ball
5) The Fox
6) Hold On, We're Going On
7) Holy Grail
8) Applause
9) Counting Stars
10) Do What U Want

Billboard's article is clear as day... not sure how you're not comprehending it.
But yes, Umich was correct, as we all have stated before.

Negative sales count on HDS (and Digital totals)
CMA doesn't affect the charting week.
200k for the HOT100
140k for HDS (and the singles' total)

To add to this (in case it's not clear enough), the 200K for the Hot 100 were all single sales for the given week. None of them were returns. The returns are applied for sales from previous weeks, which is why the HDS chart makes that adjustment.

Mess. I didn't realize this would turn into a debate
If Roar happens to return to #1 next week, what would be the explanation then? Her AirPlay has stalled and continues to fall, and she probably won't see that much of an increase in streaming figures. Also, her popbar has been around 75-85% of Royals all week.

Increase on Hot 100 position for single on album release week always is because of streaming points increase, as many people play album songs out of curiosity and singles get biggest treatment. But i don't expect her streaming increase so much to pass Royals as currently it's above Roar in all components including streaming.

According to Kworb, "Royals" has more than a 1m lead over "Roar" in US Spotify streams. "Roar" isn't getting the #1 if Spotify streams remain below those of "Royals".
Avicii could go #3 however, if he can beat Miley in streaming. They're very close by on the US Spotify chart.

Avicii and Miley may be close in Spotify, but she's obliterating him in YouTube views. It seems that she's stabilizing around the 10-million mark for total streams vs Avicii's 5-million total streams.

Oh, I forgot about YouTube. Silly me.
Katy won't have the same YouTube advantage that Miley did upon the release of her album. I think "Royals" is safer now than it was then.

Does anybody think Blurred Lines has a shot at staying in the Top 10 for another week, or is something going to knock it out? I'm not sure what song is next in line to enter. Demons?
