I understand the meltdowns, the critics, people calling Lady Gaga and her label desperate for chart success etc.
Sadly, there's nothing we can do.
They seem to have not idea of what singles should be picked, which is pretty bad considering we are talking about a lead and a second single.
These things should be planned with more attention for a big artist that needs a great comeback after an underwhelming era.
Of course you can't predict exactly what the GP will like and what not, but "test" the songs before.
Anyway, they won't change the single again even if the next song is more successful.
There's enough confusion already, it won't make sense.

When you have to start talking about "Well its not a hit for HER standards," its a hit and you're grasping for straws
It's okay to admit you were wrong about Applause's performance when it came out. No need to continue this fan fiction when we've already moved on to single #2

What confusion are you talking about? The success of this song took them by surprise and it was so exciting that how could they not choose to release it? It can't even just be her label either, if she made it then she must love it. So its not JUST desperation for a number one single and even so why not get it! She deserves it. The song is good and well received.
This fanbase is just so awful. Nothing pleases any of you! Its such a joke. She gets success and you're all doing your best to tear it down. ****ing idiots man seriously lol

There's not really confusion outside of "stan world." The GP doesn't follow Gaga's release schedule.
It would be more confusing if they tried to push Venus really hard while the GP was still on DWUW

You have to take into consideration that she not only came back from near irrelevance but a previous era that was so polarizing. No matter what she released it wasn't going to go straight to number one. She had to be weaned back into public consciousness. Her haters are vocal as **** and her own fans have a meltdown over the tiniest details. Her career has some demons now and shes gotta shake em off this era. Its not like it was going to come easy for her, she lost the vice grip she had on popular culture with Born This Way.

You're right, but now that Applause just became her biggest (or second biggest) radio hit ever and thus Gaga has weaned back into the public consciousness like you said, I'm expecting DWUW to sell at least 6 million copies and to go #1 in the US, shouldn't be a problem, right ?

The envy is real with the other stanbases, trying desperately to find something wrong with the release. I think it's great that Gaga is capitalizing on the success of the song. Now it's time to promote and give the song an awesome video.

Digital sales are declining with the increasing popularity of streaming services. I'm sure DWUW will be a hit on radio, streaming, YouTube, and digital downloads just like Applause was!

Shes not just going to dominate again overnight. You'd be being unrealistic. The fact that Applause has such solid radio support and remained in the Top 10 from its release date up until recently is great. The fact that the promo single reached number one in so many places and is so well received generally and critically is great as well. It only makes sense to make it the second single. Blah blah blah. Just let her exist.

I think they made the right decision, based on the venus lyrics alone it was going to be a MESS and the GP would have not been able to connect with it. DWUW is generic and basic and an easy hit...
She never needed another dance song for single #2. They just handled it wrong and she keep's on contradicting herself that she does not care about the chart's when she clearly does.
They need to SCRAP Venus and Dope and just push DWUW
If DWUW Flops then this era is dead.

Good! She wont get a massive first week due to hype, but we probably wouldn't be as happy with Venus.

Seriously, it only would've been messy is Venus had actually been released and then they decided to cancel it. This is pretty fluent, it did well so theyre going to release it. Its not really a messy situation.
