Applause is radio friendly.
It would've gone number one if it weren't for the fact that a lot of people hate her or lost interest. Even despite the clumsy second verse theres nothing wrong with the song. It had all the potential to be a #1 single for her but it wasn't because her reputation is shot. Its something she has to work at repairing this era.
However, I don't think G.U.Y. sounds like a single. The chorus does but the verse didn't.

the only annoying ones here are the delusional ones. yes the leak did affect its sales but it was nothing major; if people liked it they would buy it anyway. born this way has damaged her brand immensely and she needs to fix it and obviously she is trying to fix. and it's only her biggest radio hit because radio format has changed; poker face now would have a much higher peak on radio.

she does have a poor reputation with the public. it doesn't mean they hate her it means that BTW kind of damaged her commercial appearance, and the fact that Applause is a radio hit shows that they're willing to give her a second chance this era and she can fix her image.

Applause did very well, I just don't think the climate of pop music allowed it to do as well as other songs (Royals, WB, Roar, etc.). I think she could have hit 3 milli by the end of the year had she landed more high-profile promo spots.
"Applause" is a hit, but I think the GP is waiting for the next "LoveGame" - a straight-forward dance number with Gaga's quirky, sexually charged lyrics. if that's what "Venus" is bringing, I think it'll be an enormous hit.

i think it generally wasn't the best time to release a dance song, considering it's fall and music around this time generally isn't heavy dance music. i think a more mellow EDM-inspired song would've done wonders, but perhaps Interscope is just hoping to get people to like the new direction rather than overselling ARTPOP so early in the album era. i mean realistically that was kind of what happened with BTW.

I agree about the promo spots, but what's done it's done and song has done very well. Let's hope the upcoming promo works wonders for "Venus".
i was iffy at first but i think its release day is kind of perfect. Im not expecting a huge first week sales (none of us should) so what it sells first week shouldnt matter because we shouldnt want it to peak first week. However, friday gives nearly a full week of radio play compared to what it would normally get, without any rolling in its first tracking week and its 2 days sales can anywhere from 60-90k imo depending on how good the song is

Does the complete my album action count as the album sale or separate single sales ?
According to the latest BB chart report, the CMA scheme isn't counted as negative sales anymore (no idea when they started this). So maybe both Applause and Venus would benefit from the album release week.
