Yeah, I'd say if there was any possibility of the song being on the album, it would be under "Little Black Dress". There's still some hope, but man, I'll be so disappointed if the song doesn't make the cut. It's one of their best.

If it doesn't, I seriously have doubts about their fourth album being any different. I'll support as a honest fan should but I won't be too happy about their choices though.
But the plus side is, I'm finally going to be part of a new era beginning.

I'm just going to wait until I hear the third album before I make assumptions on the fourth.
I still have a lot of hope that this new album will be a more dramatic shift than TMH was from UAN (which TMH was progression, albeit at a snail's pace). Pharrell's comments about the album have me interested and excited, and I don't think "Best Song Ever" will end up being a good representation for the general direction of the album. Of course I can't say anything with any solid proof until the album leaks, though.

Obviously. Although personally I thought BSE was definitely a step-up. From just a generic pop-dance sound the boys make into something little edgier. That's something at least.
The thing about my thought on JCLHG is mainly that while the boys genuinely believe their albums are progressing; it's mostly the management that decides the album tracks. TMH might have at least progressed from a freshman album where there was five tracks that sounded too similar; it just didn't progress in sound. Hopefully Pharell is a indication that this might be a different outlook for Album 3.

I thought that, too! "Best Song Ever" had the upgraded guitars that actually made it feel a little more edgy and rock influenced. It wasn't a lot, but it definitely feels like the most rock-leaning song they have in their discography up until this point.
You actually bring up a good point with the word "generic", and I have to wonder if I'm the only one who actually doesn't feel that 1D are generic. I understand why people would say they are - they have a clear formula that works for them - but it's a sound they own. There's a reason people say "this sounds like One Direction", even if it's not a One Direction song (a recent example is material on Demi Lovato's album and even a few k-pop acts). The lighter pop-rock sound in general might be something a lot of artists try to tap into for success but to me, that doesn't make 1D generic, it only proves their influence throughout the industry as labels try and mould their own stars after the blueprint 1D have perfected.

Exactly. At this point given what we know about the album, I'm willing to give it a leeway if we at least get five or six tracks that are a BSE step up. If nothing else, that step just might be enough to push the boys into a mature album lyrically and sonically (it's possible to retain a certain sound they've made without losing it. Just look at Since U Been Gone; it was originally a pop song meant for P!nk or Hilary. Kelly added guitars to it and made it a pop-rock sound uniquely suited to her vocals).
I don't consider the boys generic. If anything, while they may have the same issues that faces any boy band (transitioning into an AC/HAC artist for example), they are probably the most popular band since BSB/N'Sync. That's a feat and says a lot about their power as a band. Their sound can be perfected (Best Song Ever and Just Can't Let Her Go are evidence they can do just that); it's mostly the material that lacks the depth needed to transition them into longevity past their final album of their current contract.

Well, with what we've been given in 2013 so far, there's a fair chance this album could contain many of those mature (sonically/lyrically) moments that we're hoping for. We keep mentioning "Best Song Ever", but let's not forget that "One Way or Another" literally mashed two songs together and wrapped it up in a giant 1D-sized bow. That cover suited them so well and it was proof that they (or their label, producers, etc) are capable of doing some pretty exciting stuff on this next album.
Anything to mention Kelly though, hm?
Exactly, if 1D were just a generic blueprint then we'd be seeing Union J and Emblem3 being super successful right now, but they aren't. That's the proof right there that 1D have something about them that is unmatched in all the other boy bands, and now it's a matter of actually honing in on what makes them great and translating that into something more GP-friendly and actually "respectable" by the time their contract is over.

Would you mind clarifying your implication? It was the perfect analogy.

Well you know I was joking, although it did seem a little random.

I still don't think Just Can't Let Her Go will be on the album. The gem that got away, their Out of Control.

People consider most boybands generic don't take offense to it. Boybands are not looked at as "real music" I don't feel those type of acts in general are trying to be "deep" they just make fun pop music. And boybands have some of the best pop songs in general imo. But try explaining that to the music snobs with sticks up their asses. Everyone has a right to their opinion, but it doesn't make it correct. 1D is not making ground breaking music and I also feel they should evolve, but the sound works for them and I don't see them straying that far away from it since it's not broke yet. I don't know if that's good or bad..depends on who you ask. But we can't judge until we hear the album.
