At least Applause is a hit in Germany and Japan so far (on top of US) which are pretty big markets. It's not AS local as iTunes positons makes it seem. It's Top 10 in Spain but not on their iTunes, etc.
Besides, with Gaga possibly producing Venus, we won't even be in the Top 10,000 of US radio a month from now, so enjoy the sizable/moderate slayage while you can
