I was actually really surprised by just how many people didn't attack Gaga for "being a ****". People actually complimented her and said she looked great and there are several photos on Tumblr with over 50,000 notes from that day (which is strange considering her photos don't always get a lot of notes).

And the next day people praised her butt for looking so good. Just goes to show Gaga's impact. She's allowed to show up naked but no one else is because she made it part of her career. It's what people are used to. When other girls try, they get attacked.

Miley's "performance" was a try-hard, cacophonous mess of weak vocals and just plain ridiculous "dance" moves. The fact she looked like a naked little boy in a plastic tube only increased the hilarity.

Whereas Gaga actually performed, serving vocals and dance moves and in the end happened to appear in a near-nude outfit.

This. Plus most of the GP's used to Gaga being Gaga (wearing eccentric or revealing stuff, etc.) and a wholesome, family entertainment image the old Miley had until her gradual change. People didn't think the former Hannah Montana star would do anything that crazy on VMA night.
