I always thought actors made more, but I think you're right, in general musicians make more. But the top tier actors with big names can pretty much write their own checks.

Actors are less important/reliable in terms of bankability than they used to be.
It's just that the cinema experience offers something that can't be replicated through piracy, so the film industry has been comparatively immune to the declines other entertainment formats have seen.
It has still been hurt by the decentralization of entertainment options overall, though. Inflation just hides that to a degree.
Plus, as you mentioned, musicians seem to be more idolized than actors/actresses.
