Her team actually used to not release her singles physically except in limited ammounts so that her albums sell better. That's why I think of Mariah's and Madonna's 20m+ albums as more impressive since they sold everything.

That's not true. They didn't do that for just BOMT and OIDIA. For the rest of her singles, they did sell physical copies of her singles.

It has value now. It didn't before.

There were two charts back then by the way, the Hot 100 and another chart based on single sales. A lot of the singles you mentioned went #1 on the single sales chart.
