Mine lasts 5 years. I can use my passport to visit any other country in the world, but if I wanna visit the US, I need my Green Card.
And he couldn't visit his mom 'cause his work didn't let him, he was helping his family to get some extra money, they were having a pretty bad time.

it's not just venezuela, either. my friend from costa rica tried to visit his brother in america and he got rejected because he apparently couldn't prove he had a solid reason to go back to costa rica??? they gave him an interview and everything. immigration in the US is absolutely horrible guys there's just no debating that in the slightest

Usually tourist visa's aren't hard to get, if you can prove your gonna leave before the visa expires. But that's ofcourse to the discretion of the immigration officer. It is a shame people get denied when they aren't lying, and have honest intentions to just visit.
I'm really thankfully I'm Canadian, not alot of countries require me to get a visa to just visit.

That also happens a lot in Venezuela. My friend's mother also didn't have a solid reason to come back, at least, that's what they thought.

I've known about lots of similar cases, it's really hard to get a tourist visa. We got one because of my dad's job, he had a solid reason to come back plus my little brother and I were students. But still, as I stated before, I don't get why Latin people try to live there, they apply for tourist visas, in Venezuela, and then they don't come back. I also try to understand why the US is so hard with their systems, but not all us think the same way.

I love it, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Yes, it is ****ed up, yes we've got a **** ton of problems, yes we one of the stupidest developed countries, yes we are messy as hell, yes our government(mostly Congress) is incapable of getting anything done, but hell, I still love it. I love the ideals we live by, I love the "American Dream," I love that the country was built on the premise of hope and freedom. I love New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Salt Lake City, Denver, you name it (except anything in Arizona ). I love how diverse we are, I love how passionate we are, I love our patriotism (of course as evidenced by this thread, not all of us are), I love the bald eagle.
Not only that, so many people I love are American. Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato, Katy Perry, Michelle Obama, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton. So many iconic people as well, Madonna, Britney, Cher, Michael Jackson, Oprah, Elvis, Babe Ruth, FDR, I'm also a huge sports fan, baseball, basketball, and football. I love that no matter the politics, people will still come together to support their sports team.
I love the U.S.A. despite all of it's short comings.

I always see the USA as empty, i mean, it doesn't have an ancient culture or something like that, it really is an european colony, the locals navajos and cherokee's were fooled and killed, and now they the humanization of HYPE, i mean they're always building hype for the country, all of it seems to be fast-food, people with guns, racism and entertainment, in some topics they're the best but in others the europeans or latinos are better, they have a long way to go.
I love the area near NY because it's beautiful and historical, and truly the heart of USA, the mid-west, the south and the west coast are like different countries.

Pretty much. Such condescension and utter ignorance displayed, yet, we're always the arrogant ones. I guess.

It's fine here tbh.
I DISLIKE the pack of HICKS running my state's government. As far as exceptionalism goes, Yeah many of us do have big egos BUT tbh I dislike the whole 'I hate America, everyone is stupid, we do everything BETTER in my country' attitude some people have.It REEKS of hypocrisy IMO.
We are a LARGE country of 300 something million, with about just as much rural population as there is urban population, of course Ideas are going to clash as we do not have one set ideology. Not everyone is a bible thumping Tea Party republican or a Prius driving, Farmers market shopping liberal.

A few bad apples ruined it for everyone else, there's people that do go to the US on tourist visas and don't leave. They work under the table, so of course the US is going to be strict with who they let in.
But, if you have a plane ticket proving your going to leave the US, and your visiting for say a month, I don't see why they would deny you a tourist visa.
Even me, a Canadian, was asked at US customs to show proof of a plane ticket showing I was gonna return once.

Apart from all the iconic stuff which doesn't affect people's everyday lives, the only good thing about living in the US is all the guns.
And the politicians all seem either borderline retarded or out of the 1950s.

I live in the US, and I want to get out of here. This place isn't somewhere I would raise my children. Too dangerous and the atmosphere is terrible.

I appreciate my situation here even though there is much about this country to be desired.

Not perfect, but nowhere is.
The USA gets more than its share of hype, but also more than its fair share of critics.
