Agree and disagree with this. I think Absol itself is fine on its own as a standalone, and thus a MegaEvo is perfect for it because it gives GameFreak an opportunity to mess around with an already viable pokemon. They have marketed most of the MegaEvo's so far as options, not necessities, and I think that's where they should draw the line on whether a poke should get a real evo or what.
That said, I agree 100% that Mega Mawhile should have been a Mawhile evolution instead. MMawhile will not be seen as an option but instead as necessary facet for Mawhile to be useful, because the regular Mawhile is so damn useless.
