She is but not completely. She wrote BTHE which makes her artist (example) but now she jumps around happily while singing such a sad song. She doesn't feel it.
If she hadn't done MD (and CMB), I wouldn't think of her as an artist. Few songs she wrote on other albums are just too little.

The only time she's happy during BTHE is if she is feeding off the energy of the crowd though, she usually still sings it with the same amount of anger.
I mean:
She cracks a smile here and there but if you only listen she's completely in the song. Kelly's ability to connect with what she sings is her most valuable skill as a vocalist imo and even using that on songs she didn't write still makes her an artist because she uses her unique interpretation and experiences to produce her vocal.

Ok, thank you. I was thinking about some performances during Stronger tour when it felt like they were totally fake. You're right.
But she still doesn't sing Irvine and Haunted. Is it too painful? If I wanted to be a true artist I think I would handle it.

Hmm I think Irvine was the lowest point of her live.. So she doesn't wanna remember it? And Haunted was about her friend that commit suicide (is that right?). Maybe she don't to remember her old sad story..

Haunted she doesn't sing because it's too mediocre (Although really, it was probably too vocally demanding for her to sing during the MD tour and there is no other reason for her to sing it now).
And I think Kelly has said that she would never want to sing Irvine because she knew she wouldn't be able to recapture the emotion that went into writing it. Apparently she only recorded it once on some cheap microphone right after it was written and didn't even re-record her vocals when putting together the album. I don't think it makes her less of an artist for not singing it, if anything it makes the song more powerful knowing how much she put into it.
I don't think Kelly would ever sing Irvine live. As amazing as that song is (and it is like a heartbreaking masterpiece) it was the lowest point of her life according to her.
I think I remember she recorded it maybe in Garageband or something and they just mastered the audio and that's pretty much it.
Whether that makes her more or less of an artist that's irrelevant whether she chooses to sing a song or not. I think it makes her more of an artist for wanting to put such song in an album that already was causing too much controversy because it was too dark

To be honest unless you've personally been through what she has you really can't judge her. How tough or painful it could be in incomprehensible to anyone other that her and maybe those around her at the time. So to judge her for not singing them is really unfair.

You're right, I can't judge her. But if I were Kelly, I would try to make life and career two separate things. Something like she'd be somebody else on stage, when the songs ends she kinda "wakes up" and she's Kelly again. It would be amazing (and sorta painful) to see the tears in her eyes while singing BTHE or Irvine and she has cried on stage multiple times. I don't know. I can't decide if Kelly is an artist or not because her art could be anything. But what I know is she's not 100% artist.
An artist is someone who creates something, she writes a lot of her own music, so that makes her an artist, I don't get the discussion about it
Yeah, she said she writes almost everyday. But I want to hear it until I say she is a TRUE artist. Or good artist. Otherwise anybody can be named an artist, cause they create something (a sandwich or something). And then the word "art" would lose it's value.

What do you mean a true/good artist?
And it's about creating something original that makes you an artist, so no, unfortunately me making a sandwich wouldn't make me an artist

I was saying that each person creates something at some point (or many points) of their lives. Can I be called an artist if I paint a cat on my wall? No.

WUT? I am even more proud of Kelly that she doesn't sing songs that are too personal for her. I have been wondering for a long time if singers during concerts feel what they felt when they wrote the songs. Because after like 5,7,10 years the former feeling might be gone for good, whether it was love, hatred, angred, disappointment, whatever. I think that most singers just sing the words after all the time and don't really think of them, of their meaning. Kelly apparently thinks of it and that's the reason why she doesn't sing the songs live and I do appreciate that.

That's right.
And that's why I need new material. Some fresh performances.
