One stormy night at the local saloon, a group of men were playing a game poker until the storm had eased. It was a quiet night with only a couple of men at the bar and the group of men at the table. It was a quiet little western town where nothing much happens. In the middle of the poker game, an unknown visitor walked in. He was wearing all black from head to toe along with a black bandana covering his face and all you can was his eyes. The group of men had paused and watched the visitor walk towards the bar.
“Whiskey. No Ice,” he said. His voice was a bit deep toned and the bartender didn’t say a word.
As the bartender was pouring his drink, the visitor was eyeing the group of men with cards in their hands. Once the visitor chugged down his Whiskey he started to walk away from the bar and started to go towards the group of men.
“Hey! What about the pay?!” The bartender was furious about the pay. The visitor stopped in his tracks and looked towards the bartender. “My apologies, sir,” the bartender replied and finished cleaning the counter of the bar. As the visitor was continued to make his way towards the table, he asked, “Anyone care if I join in?”
One of the cowboys tipped back in his chair and asked, “What’s on the line?”
The visitor just stood there and replied, “Your soul.”
All four cowboys sat their laughing at the visitor’s request. All the cowboys had folded all of their cards and one of them said, “You’re joking right? I mean, who are you just coming in here and wanting to join us for our souls.”
The visitor had chuckled and had rephrased on what he said, “How about a bet. Whoever loses this single game of poker your soul will be taken.”
All four men were laughing again and the cowboy with his seat tilt against the wall asked with a small grin on his face, “What happens if one of wins? Then what?”
The visitor had reached into the same pocket of his long coat and pulled out a silver pocket watch. “This watch contains all of the souls who lost a single game of poker. The winner gets to take this watch and set them free.”
All four men had talked it over and agreed to let this visitor join in on the game and to see happens. “Alright, you can join in and I bet you that nothing will happen,” one agreed.
As the visitor was pulling up a chair, the dealer was starting to shuffle all the cards. Once the visitor had put the pocket watch in the middle of the table, he had stopped the dealer from shuffling and took out his own deck of cards. It wasn’t just any kind of deck of cards. What the four men didn’t know what that these were cursed cards. Cards that sense who’s going to be the loser. The visitor had shuffled his own cards and started to hand them out. Once everyone had there cards, they constantly kept looking at one another. They had never seen cards like these before. The Ace of Spades had a smoking skull within the Spade. Once everyone was ready, the game had begun.
Ten minutes had passed and one of the cowboys had folded. The visitor was beginning to be pleased at the outcome. The silver pocket watch still sitting on the table waiting for someone to win it. The visitor had noticed that the three men who were still in the game kept looking at that pocket watch. One by one the number of players were slowly dwindle down a bit, it was only between the visitor and the cowboy in the tilted chair.
The last cowboy had a grin on his face and laid his cards facing up so everyone could see the two pairs he had. As he was grabbing all of the money and the silver pocket watch, the visitor had stopped him and laid down his cards. All four cowboys got up and saw what he had in his hand; a straight flush, all in Spades. At this point, the last cowboy was starting to get terrified about this visitor. As he slouched in his chair, the visitor had taken all the money including the silver pocket watch. As the visitor took his winnings and started to leave, one of the cowboys had got up from his chair and said, “I knew you were bluffing about the bet. But I have to admit, that was a good game.”
Underneath his bandana, the visitor grinned and walked away.
Later that night while everyone was asleep, the unknown visitor had found where the cowboy lived and walked in his home. He had found the lone cowboy at a desk and said, “Time to pay on your end of the bet.”
The lone cowboy was terrified and asked, “How did you get in here?”
”That doesn’t matter. Time to pay on your end of the bet.”
The cowboy slowly backed up towards his revolver, but couldn’t get to it in time. The visitor started to swing his pocket watch back and forth until the cowboy started to watch it. Slowly the cowboy sat on his bed and then all of a sudden, the cowboy’s soul was being sucked into the pocket watch and fell back against the wall. Once the watch had stopped swinging. The limp body of the cowboy stayed against the wall, lifeless. The visitor had left the Ace of Spades on his desk and fled the town.
Later the next day, the three men who played the game as well, walked into the cowboy’s home and found him lifeless. One of them had noticed something on the desk and realized that they had seen that card before. The fellow that they had seen last night and played the game with them had the same exact card. Then all of a sudden, the unknown visitor wasn’t lying about the bet they had made the night before.
Why do people always look at me like I committed a crime when I yawn in public. I'm not yawning directly in their face so they can leave their stank face somewhere else.
