No artist of today is a great technical dancer. They have rhythm and can move to a beat, but none of them are true dancers.

That said, because of Janet and MJ, artists are not full performers unless they dance. But dance, along with singing, has become so watered down that anyone capable of executing an 8 count or a simple phrase can pass as a dancer.

Beyonce is cut from the same cloth as older performers where musicality and big performances went hand in hand with dancing. Michael Jackson, Tina Turner and even Prince.

Dancing is a part of performance. It's not mandatory, but it's commonly used in pop music to create visual interest. It's an option, one a lot of these girls take, and some are better at than others. As a listener of pop music, I just don't bother with girls who don't even try. I have higher standards for artists I listen to (and invest in) than chart candy.

They don't dance anymore for the same reason they don't sing anymore...because this generation of music listeners are too ignorant to expect to be fully entertained, so their pop stars get to be lazy or glaringly unskilled in what should be considered vital areas of their repertoire. These days any trick can toss on a neon wig, plump up their cakes and throw out a jingle bells hook single for attention just to start hawking mass produced crap made in china.
