In addition to that, the list is not a comparative one of vocal talents but seems to be more based on importance to Rolling Stone than skill. Which explains why Patti Labelle is so low, why Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and many more are not on the list. It's from Rolling Stone, so it's going to have their spin.
A very flawed and shallow comment. You mean to tell me rihanna is breaking down barrier for women and the lgbt community in a way that Madonna didn't. Are you telling me that rihanna has many iconic and extremely acclaimed performances, that inspired little girls that followed her to follow her blueprint. You mean to tell me Rihanna's 7th album Unapologetic can even compare to Madonna's 7th album ROL. Madonna did so much and from this comment I can tell you don't know jack squat about her otherwise than her being sexy or being controversial. Doing the most without the receipts in my Whitney voice to back it up.
But when Madonna was rihanna's age she dropped the critically acclaimed classic "Madonna", and has been cited as not only one of the best records of the decade/of all time. When Madonna was rihanna's age out the gate she was already iconic and influential. Hell even the year later she did one of the most remembered performances of all time, that broke down barriers. Shallow comment yet again, no comment on the bolded
What's all this useless BS got to do with vocals sis ?!
Her vocals are still weak and in no way better then Rihanna's. And Madonna is nowhere on Bey's level.

It's not as if these paragraphs came by themselves. They were in reply to other people talking about Madonna not having strong vocals but still being the Queen of Pop.

Yeah that's what I'm saying. Rihanna don't need Beyonce power house vocals and skills to be above and more iconic then her later on in the industry. There were so many people better then Madonna ( vocals wise ) during her peak but she out did all of them and got those hits on the hot 100 charts.

But then you need to re-read what was said again because Gangsta4alife explained it really well.
And also, sure, Madonna got a lot of hits on the Hot 100. But is she ever named a great vocalist? NEVER. And that is what this thread is about. Or have you forgotten so soon?

I see a running theme in this thread, and these so called bloggers/experts. It's jealousy that X isn't African American yet she's the voice of our generation, and trumps the other gals. Even though of course Christina Aguilera's a way better singer than Mary J Blige, her, and X hold the same singing technique. There's a reason why ya'll here would rather go after X than MJB since ya'll can't have her.
I'll say though, Xtina has a NATURAL ability at singing....
Beyoncé had to work really hard to get her voice to where it is.. Im not knocking that at all though...
If Xtina let her ego down and started taking vocal lessons.. She would really be the voice of this generation... Up there with Whitney And Mariah hands down

Ok but wtf is vocals to a pop girl then?!! If I was a pop girl and I had vocals that wont selling, I would not want them. I don't know why some people are in this thread having this idea ' oh she has big vocals...let me bow down and stan'.....

Beyoncé at 16 was still better than any of her peers

It can be inconceivable to some why good vocals, talent, proficiency, and dedication can make some people stan, yes.
But last I checked a pop girl is a singer, and as a singer there are certain expectations. Those expectations have been significantly lowered since MTV premiered, but nonetheless they exist and can sometimes still trump cute-looks in making a true star.
Personally I think that vocals are important to be a pop girl. All my favourites generally have to have good vocals otherwise I just like them passingly and/or know that I don't take them seriously as a singer. To stan for likeablilty means you might as well as be stanning for the popular girl in your high school. Or you could just stan for a boom box. That'd be cute.

What use are sales to me and you? She ain't sharing the money with you sis. How does one stan for someone elses money? It's cute that our faves are rich and powerful, but our #1 priority should always be their music and talents.

Yeah well obviously not stan enough since those who have weak vocals are doing better in the music industry while others have to keep showcasing good vocals, talent, proficiency, and dedication or they're over.

I would rather buy music from someone that can give my life by using their voice than by someone who is popular because everyone else thinks she looks cute in the music videos, or because everyone knows who she is.

Keep in mind that people with weak vocals probably know less about music so don't care about their integrity, probably have their labels make decisions for them, probably let producers do what they will to make their voice sound catchy, probably need to rely a lot more on writers to get a song that sounds catchy so they actually sound good, etc.
