Both really talented girls.
Vocally I prefer Demi, especially because of the power and emotion, but Ariana also slays with her Mariah-vocals, even though I don't understand 70% of what she sings.
Demi is a song-writter and plays piano and guitar, so musically she beats Ariana by far. She also has way better stage presence.

Ariana. While she's not really a dancer or a writer, she has a nicer voice than Demi. Demi may write, but she's bad at it and her dancing is basic as hell. Ariana also beats her in acting, as she's horrible.

Playing an instrument is not a talent, you can play it if you learn it, basically everyone could do it. Playing an instrument really well is a talent though.

I just realized we're comparing all kinds of talent here and not just vocal talent. In that case...

Demi

Playing an instrument is not a talent, you can play it if you learn it, basically everyone could do it. Playing an instrument really well is a talent though.

Of course playing an instrument is a talent. You're just able to learn that talent. Not all talent is naturally born talent. You don't have to be given the gene to play an instrument but once you learn to do it, it becomes a talent, and you can improve on that talent as much as you want.

Singing is actually one type of talent where you have to be born to have it. You can't learn to sing. If you can't sing in the first place you'll never get very good at it no matter how much vocal training you take.

It really comes down to a tie. Ariana is the superior vocalist but Demi writes her music and will likely improve overtime. Both can act as well.

You could also learn how to sing, and with Ariana's training that she got from Broadway, she's bound to be a good singer.

So playing an instrument is a talent. Just like you could learn how to play sports and be good at it.
