Sis, both she and Selena had 1 single released in the UK before the album dropped, what kind of logic?
PUHY was a 2011 single, The Way was released in the UK, Baby I wasn't released in the UK and Almost is never enough is a soundtrack song.

Yes, and yet almost nobody's heard of three of those "singles" in the US let alone overseas.

Nickelodeon studio starlet, singer and actress Ariana Grande has followed in the footsteps of Disney studio stars Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Hilary Duff, Bridgit Mendler, Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez in making the jump from being an actress in children's TV/movie shows to chart star. 20 year old Grande's debut album Yours Truly makes a decent first showing this week, entering at number seven (7,164 sales), even though all of its four singles to date - The Way (feat. Mac Miller), Almost Is Never Enough (fear. Nathan Sykes), Right There (feat. Big Sean) and Popular Song (feat. Mika) - have fallen short of the Top 40. Their respective chart peaks: 41, 49, 113 and 183.

Flop singles (in the UK) are considered promotion?

So, she had 4 flop "singles" in the UK and still beat Selena who had 1 hit single going when she released her album.
Stop reaching sis, you and I both know that songs that charted below top 40 and had no promo can't sell an album.

Congrats Katy

If Katy released same day in UK, it would have gone #1 without a doubt.

If Katy was released on the 12th like the US (same day as Applause), then she would have probably been at #3, maybe #2 at a push. She wouldn't have outsold "Burn" that week, her sales are very high this week because of the pre-orders and the wait. She could have passed 100k that week, though, it's hard to tell. Very much doubt she would have beaten Ellie, though.

It'd depend on the week, it's in no way an automatic No.
This week there was absolutely no competition for #1, so if Roar was released worldwide on the 1st she would've definitely been #1 this week, don't even try it.

But it wasn't.
We didn't give an automatic no in general, but rather no to the specific "#1 without a doubt on the week of Applause's release."
