The song is right in line with current trends. The song is honestly like CMM and BL had a baby and Gaga was the surrogate. It has the light, airy bubbliness and relatability of CMM and the mid tempo, sexy, retro urban feel of BL but still has those certain things that make it a Gaga track. I know the lyrics may be a bit too upfront but I think it could work.

Exactly. Realistically, it's the safest option for her to get a hit, and people just overlook it because of how much better some of the other tracks are, even it they're not as viable as single choices.

To be fair, what we hear now in the live performance version could become totally different when the studio versions of the songs come out. So...

It is unfair for me to write it off at this point musically. Lyrically, however, I don't know if it'll connect or not, but there's honestly no telling in that regard either way.

The songs chorus is good but the flow of the verses is off. It really depends how the studio version comes together. We know the song is missing chunks as she was posting lyrics to it that weren't in the performance. Not too mention she tends to sing her songs in different keys/melodies live compared to studio versions. I think she has a strong chorus but it really depends on the rest of the song. In its current state of what we heard it would flop. However the song does have a lot of potential that depends on a lot of unknown variables.

Well, for pop artists, critics tend to be swayed more by image and commercial success, rather than the music itself.

You never know. Y&I changed a lot from her first performance of it.

I still say if it was given a TEoG treatment it'd be a Without You level smash. Who knows though the studio version could slay.

This is why I think she'll get an overall disappointing metacritic score - somewhere in the mid 60s, which is usually not her milieu. The twitter controversies - the perceived desperation, the Perez meltdown, the mime imagery, being constantly compared to Katy... The only critic I really stan for is Robert Christgau. He seems to stan for Gaga.

I trust that Gaga's music won't disappoint me, regardless.
