Well if the public like you that reflects the general consensus on your faves while critics reflect opinions of a small minority. For example the public loves Katy Perry but critics wouldn't go near her with a barge pole.
Does it reflect the general consensus? What percentage of the public buys records? Which demographics tend to buy records?

But does an opinion become more valid just because it's more widespread?
That is this decade & it isnt even a solo release. It is a compilation album.
808s and Heartbreak is more acclaimed than Blueprint 2, Blueprint 3, and Kingdom Kong so IDK why Jay is put ahead.
5. Aretha Franklin - Respect
53. M.I.A. - Paper Planes
55. Beyonce - Crazy In Love
68. Missy Elliott - Get Ur Freak On
85. Dionne Warwick - Walk On By
95. Donna Summer - I Feel Love

There's no perfect way to gain a public consensus but sales are generally a better indicator than reading a few failed writers opinion on an artist. Honestly the best way to see how the public views a singer is to do the unthinkable and leave your house and socialise with people.
