You people are forgeting that JLO is latina, but even in the latin market, she isn't the most powerful, Shakira is the biggest star. Although JLO is not far behind, but her appeal is hard to explain.

JLO don't record in spanish a lot, so no nominations from the Latin Grammys. She has 2 grammy nominations, no win. Meanwhile Shakira has won 2 grammys and 8 latin grammys
I have to add that I don't measure an artist quality for the number of grammys they have, we know how these awards don't reflect quality.

Yes, like I said in my other comment, I believe, although JLO has more popular hits worldwide than Beyoncé, the latter has a stronger image as artist than JLO. Beyoncé has a devoted fanbase that makes all the difference, while JLO doesn't, she has to hit big to appeal to people and climb the charts, because she has no fandom to back her hits.
