In the "Is Beyonce the Queen of R&B" thread. Rihanna stans say Beyonce doesn't make R&B music. Now, her most of her songs are R&B
Beyonce and Christina are more diverse than any artist this generation. Not only does the music chances their delivery does as well. and Kelly Clarkson too.
I totally agree that her catalogue is extremely versatile and I think it's great that her voice is flexible enough that it can sound good on most sounds. That is a testament to the Rihanna-tone. She may not have the vocals that reach the heavens but she certainly sounds pleasing to the ears.
I agree. Rihanna has a distinct voice that is hers. I've always enjoyed it.
You're totally right. Baby Boy isn't really reggae it just has dancehall elements.
However this is reggae:
Seriously? That's not even a Beyonce song. Beyonce is covering a reggae song using her trademark R&B arrangement. Just listen to the way she is singing. Are you kidding me?
Rihanna actually crosses between genres though. I honestly can't believe someone wrote that Baby Boy was reggae. Baby Boy is a R&B song with Sean Paul on it and that's it. Man Down is reggae. And this is what I mean when I say Beyonce mainly does R&B with a sprinkle of different elements every now and then, (funk, soul, jazz etc.) but it's still an R&B song. Her music doesn't cross genres the same way Rihanna's does.
Baby Boy has a Dancehall beat and even has Middlle Eastern influences. It's not just an R&B song.
And Bey's music literally crosses genres because Sugarland still covers Irreplaceable (pop) live and Reba McEntire covered If I Were a Boy (soft-rock) for one of her albums.

I was unaware that your artistry is only limited to what you've done in the studio.
And reggae as a genre has always been very influenced by R&B music. So it's not surprising that she used R&B type vocals especially for this song.
Why has Beyonce come up in this thread? Lol. She's like the least diverse popstar, ever.
And her attempts at ''branching out'' of R&B are unbelievably horrific (Ave Maria, Radio, I Was Here etc).

Horrific is a subjective term. Do you mean to say her voice didn't sound good? Because her vocals are pretty objectively flawless on these tracks. You may not like them (subjective) but if she is hitting the notes that is very clearly objective.
I honestly think Beyonce's music is the least versatile and that's not even shade. She found her niche and she sticks with it. Comparing two songs with sprinkles of different elements in her catalogue doesn't make it a different genre, and especially when Beyonce's musical arrangements barely change.
Rihanna is and will always be more versatile and I would definitely say out of her peers of this generation she's leading the pack.
Pop interpretations of other genres don't suggest the kind of diversity a lot of you are suggesting. They're easily digestible and bastardised in most cases.
I don't know why so many pop fans are concerned with this when they rarely explore those other genres anyway.

I wasn't talking about her vocals though.
She hasn't shown ANY diversity yet. Half her singles are either pop ballads or R&B uptempos, all with similar production. Nothing else.
