That is one way to see it, yes.
Another way would be she went back to what she loves most and completely re-envisioned it. There are no songs that sound like Countdown, for example. No one has made a song like Love on Top in a long while and I can't think of any song with the octave changes in it like she did, End of Time is very unique, I Miss You and I Was Here both have very interesting vocal production. I could say something for the uniqueness of almost every song on 4.
There's no doubt she went to her comfort zone, but she didn't just record a DIL 2.0, it's more like R&B 2.0.
