Remember, Mortal Instruments' target audience is teenage girls. What would you expect from a movie whose soundtrack includes Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato? Obviously, that demographic is the same one that This Is Us targets. Likewise, Selena Gomez is Getaway's main draw. After all, Ethan Hawke is a not-so-big actor with little drawing power. Once again, her fans are mostly teenage girls. These two movies could really take a massive hit, since 1D are much more popular with teenage girls right now than Selena, Demi, Ariana, anything Mortal Instruments related, and pretty much everything else in the world!
Not to mention, Mortal Instruments and The Butler will be in their second and third weeks, respectively. Only Getaway will be in its opening weekend like This Is Us, so the former two would be at a huge disadvantage.
Finally, the sea of teenage girls in movie theaters next week to see 1D could repel other people wanting to see other movies. Yeah, I think 1D has the best shot at #1 for its release.
Poor Flame though, his backfired on him.
