That type of decline really isn't all that uncommon. The only reason BSE had less of a decline than LWWY is because they added streaming to the Hot 100 formula recently.... and streaming is more stable than sales.

Sales are very front loaded for all artists, but generally the rise in radio keeps them a bit more stable. However, 1D has had problems getting radio airplay lately.


(TBH though BSE had a 1 million update on radio yesterday.

Why is that? Why is it that US radio doesn't support the boys? They're the biggest boyband on the planet

US Pop stations have a very BROAD audience. The "tween" demographic, while powerful, does not outweigh the (far more profitable) adults that see 1D as kiddie. These adults want sex, edginess, etc..... and give 1D songs very low call-out scores (essentially polls on how people like the songs).

There are separate "kid" pop stations where 1D tends to do well, but that just widens the gap between them and mainstream radio audiences.

I am sure that doesn't help.

The songs themselves are not radio friendly either..... I don't think ANY amount of promo could have made Kiss You/Little Things do well on US radio.

But waiT why does Justin Bieber get alot of more radio airplay? He has a very similar fanbase to 1D. His last 2 singles did very well on radio and just in general.

He has been actively trying to capture a mainstream audience with his last era, and did moderately well. During his earlier years radio wouldn't touch him, just like 1D now.
