I told my friend every single day that Katy was gonna block Gaga and come out on top and he said i was understimating Gaga, my answer was... You're understimating Katy
I have a feeling "Blurred Lines" will continue its reign. "Roar" & "Applause" aren't gonna have enough Audience Impressions on Radio or enough streaming. BILLBOARD made sure to balance the chart calculations so someone would debut so high because of downloads.
"Blurred Lines" is currently in uncharted territory with those record numbers in Audience Impressions. He needs to get under 200 million impressions for either Katy or Gaga to get #1. Miley was unable to jump ahead and neither was One Direction with their amazing first week sales.
I think after the VMA performances of their songs, one of them have a better chance of jumping over "Blurred Lines". But not first week. They'll both be Top 5 for sure though! <3

Robin is also performing on the VMA's, so Blurred Lines will get another boost.
I want both to do well, they deserve it. Of course, I'm mad Gaga will get only 6 days of digital sales + no promo since nobody was expecting her and 50% of the world still don't know what Applause is, but hopefully with the video of the song she'll catch up before the real promo starts. Congrats. I'd prefer Katy to outsell Gaga instead of one hit wonders.
I can already see the headlines - 'Katy Perry topples Lady Gaga's Applause to reach her 8th Number One hit on the US Billboard HOT 100'
This won't be a surprise, given the circumstances, Katy will top Gaga for now, I think it all depends on how good the performances during the VMAs are and how good the lead single videos will be, the rest depends on each time and the promotion each artist will be capable of doing.
