She's not doing bad, lets stop acting like Katy's not coming off of a huge era. #2 is good, especially passing the huge blurred lines. The only reason people are overreacting is because they've been sitting on ATRL for months talking about how Gaga is gonna dominate everything with ease, now their foot's in their mouth.
Her music is no longer fresh or innovative. Applause is not a good song, and for Gaga's sake who once claim "pop music would never be low brow" again, clearly she got ahead of herself. She needs to get back to the basics and make good music.
I voted No just becuse it's too soon to tell! This is just the first week, maybe it'll take off next week with the music video and the VMAs!! Katy is just huge right now but i'm sure she will decrease next week, at least on itunes whereas gaga will increase everywhere because of the promo!!
Kind of, she should have just risked the song getting leaked and kept the 8/19 release date. Considering how massive she was during the premiere of last era, it's a bit embarrassing to be getting blocked by "Brave" on iTunes.
But you could also argue that it's doing pretty well for an underwhelming lead single!
Of course she did. She lost her digital power, that's for sure.
But let's not be ridiculous like the haters on this site. The song hasn't happened yet. Next week comes all the promo (I think). And it should lift off and rise its sales. I see it having longevity!
(By the way, of course Born This Way did much better, that song was expected for everyone. No one knew that Applause was coming out, it wasn't hyped at all)
If her "brand" was predicated on being the slightly quirky but still very safe pop princess with no opinion on politics or anything important to say, safe generic music with lyrics that don't challenge anyone or make anyone wonder she's talking about, and appealing to the most people possible while threatening no-one, then yes, she damaged that brand. In fact she hauled it out to the trash herself, and good on her for doing so. Plenty of generic non-threatening pop stars in the world already. Gaga challenges herself, the public, and her fans, and pop music is better for it.
