While "getting over" the past is, I agree, a little insensitive, the opposite is true of living in the past, which seems to be what some people are getting at

This thread started off as being about a video of a black girl dancing and rapping, and someone had to drag in slavery and how insensitive white people are to slavery

when in fact, most people aren't, but it's simply fact that slavery ended a century + ago, and that if we want to talk about problems and making the black community better, maybe it would be better to pertain to some relevant recent history, like the drug problems and gang violence, not to mention the cycle of fatherless homes and poverty, and are keeping the community down
