Eh no. Their saliva is considered unclean. It's not recommended (but not obligated) for Muslims to keep dogs at their houses (in the house itself, not the backyard) because they may leak saliva around the house. It's OK to raise them outside though.

Ooops, sorry -- my really religious Muslim friend told me it was because they're unsanitary and kept out of the house and that you'll lose two "hasanaat" on the day of Judgement.

But the fact that the prophet "banned" them from his own household is also a reason considering a lot of Muslims want to mimic his actions to get to heaven.
