1999 is the fifth studio album by American recording artist Prince. It released on October 27, 1982 by Warner Bros. Records. The album was his first top ten album on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States (peaking at number 9) and became the fifth best-selling album of 1983. 1999 was Prince's breakthrough album, but his next album, Purple Rain, would become his most successful. The title track was a protest against nuclear proliferation and became his first top ten hit in countries outside the United States.

This is the first Prince album on the list. It's not one of his 2 best 80s albums in my opinion so it wasn't on the list. It's still a fantastic album though and I'm glad it made it.

The album proved to be a radical departure for the band, with opening track "Europa", setting the pace. The track is a dramatic instrumental overture featuring orchestral arrangements and ending with vocalist Debbie Harry reciting a poem about the importance of the car in American society. Besides rock and pop tracks, the band explored a wide range of other musical genres: "Here's Looking At You" and "Faces" show jazz and blues influences, the reggae hit "The Tide Is High" was a cover of The Paragons' 1965 Jamaican ska hit, whereas "Rapture" combined funk, rock, jazz, and even saw them embracing the then budding genre of rap. The closing track, "Follow Me", was a cover of a torch song from Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's 1960 Broadway musical Camelot, based on the King Arthur legend.

This album is fantastic! I think the critics really underrated it... It's diverse and has their best song ever.

Autoamerican is ok but Rapture and Angels on the balcony are the only really great songs from it

Good album. He's got better '80s albums, though (like Purple Rain, which I'm sure is coming up, and even the Batman soundtrack)

EDIT: Oh hey! I voted for Autoamerican!! It was difficult for me to choose one album for Blondie, though, because my fave '80s song from them ("Island of Lost Souls") is from their flop album The Hunter, and really their best work was in the late '70s. Glad they made it, though!!

Back in Black is an album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC. It is the seventh Australian and sixth internationally released studio album by the band.
Released on 25 July 1980, Back in Black was the first AC/DC album recorded without former lead singer Bon Scott, who died on 19 February at the age of 33, and was dedicated to him. The band considered disbanding following his death, but they ultimately decided to continue, with encouragement from Scott's parents, and shortly thereafter hired Brian Johnson as their new lead singer and lyricist. Producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange, who had previously worked with AC/DC on Highway to Hell, was again brought in to produce. The album was recorded at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas, and Electric Lady Studios in New York, where the album was also mixed.

I've never heard this album but honestly AC/DC have never been my type of music... but I know they're popular so I'm not shocked by the position.
