As I said before, it's just a commercial that will run on TV in August to promote the VMAs.

The whole thing was done at Paramount Studios in LA. You don't go there to find an empty room just to do a dance rehearsal. That empty room became busy with fittings and props and people. Katy has Johnny, Jake, Todd and Jennifer on SET (as well as the same group with Katy on Leno)... Katy's nails are animal prints. I made the below and bolded key words...

It'd be a bit weird for them to promote Katy sitting in the audience doing nothing at the VMAs though.

In 2011 the promos were done by Gaga, Britney, Lil Wayne and Bruno Mars (as far as I can tell from a quick Youtube), all of whom performed on the night, or, in Britneys case, got the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

Maybe Katy's getting the award?!
