Actually, one of the reasons why I love Katy so much is because in every big event in my army career, I've had Katy give me something or she's done something that has made me or should I say motivate me to go through the hard times because her music is seriously everything for me and that's what kept my chin up and my head clear when I was in Afghanistan/Kyrgyztan
I think I've said my story once but I'm a say it again anyways lol. When I joined the army in early 2008, I went to bootcamp and while I was there I heard "Ur So Gay" for the very first time. I had no idea who it was until like 9 months later but yeah that's where it all started. When I graduated from my schools and training she released "I Kissed A Girl" and I obviously became a fan, not a stan but a fan, I didn't become a stan till the Teenage Dream era. When I was shipped to Afghanistan for the very first time in the summer of 2009, "Waking Up In Vegas" was the last single from OOTB and I remember it still going strong, I think it hit #1 the week I flew down there so I was like yay! Fast forward 10 months later and BAM! we got "California Gurls" I was still in Afghanistan, but I only had 2 months left, I was a little bummed out that the era started while I was out there but I still managed to download the song so I was happy camper
Anyways, the point is the era started when I was in Afghanistan. The day I left, which was around July 29ish, I don't remember but I do remember that Teenage Dream (the song) premiered the day I arrived so I was estatic!
March 2013, I was sent back to Afghanistan....the day that "Part Of Me" premiered which is ironic because the video was military themed...I mean I consider myself one of her biggest fans and she had a military themed video released the day I left..I was like, awesome!

and yeah that's it, "Wide Awake ended the era while I was still there.
I think it's crazy and just show how long the era was, at least in my case...it started when I was leaving Afghanistan for the very first time and ended when I went to Afghanistan for the very last time
anyways, that's why this woman means so much to me. I actually have my deployment Jacket with the name Perry and some patches ...super washed of course but it's my original and if I ever do meet her I'm a hand it to her because she means that much to me
