What I feel really killed everything is rush-releasing TEOG - "Judas" has started a mild comeback before that.
Let's hope there are no mistakes for the ARTPOP era.

Single release AFTER Easter + video release around the album release + more promo for the song (Ellen came too late, and SNL barely did anything) + more payola to lift it up = "Judas" being a smash.
It's so disappointing how stans can make up promo lists and everything that could lead to record breaking eras, but instead you have either artists with just a tiny bit too much freedom or label heads who mess stuff up too frequently.
